To bring the love of Christ and the joy of fellowship to others

A friend just said to me "I'm going to go get in some trouble".  She was kidding...

And I said, "Let me know if I can help!"  And I meant it!

Lately, it has been occuring to me with increasing regularity that a part of my life as a follower and disciple of Jesus is to get into trouble- in the best way.

I knew that early on in my faith.  I was unafraid of people's opinions, desiring only to please my new best Friend.  I took stands for what I believed in.  I refused, for example, to join the military and take lives, when clearly Jesus had told us not to.  In fact, he told me to love my enemies, for Pete's sake!  Or at least for His sake.  And I was determined enough on that cause that I went before the draft board with my case, and was prepared- fearfully- to go to jail if need be.  Fortunately-or maybe not- I didn't have to.  But I was willing

But over time it seems I have gotten tame.  I don't rabble rouse so much anymore.  I seek common ground, I build bridges, I try to reconcile.  All very good efforts.  All under the leading of the Lord.  And maybe it's just because such practices make me everyones friend that I get uncomfortable with my comfort.  I haven't ticked anyone off lately, at least not for anything significant.  Not for issues that really matter, like justice and righteousness.

Jesus ticked a lot of people off.  Especially those in the religious establishment.  All the time.  He was unafraid, and unconcerned for what people thought.  His one concern was to please his Father.  So he hung out with sinners, challenged the status quo, violated traditions, and continually challenged injustice.

Just the sort of things we, as his followers, should be doing.  I fear that I-we- are too tame.  To comfortable.  Too willing to please.  I think our Father might be inviting us to "go get in some trouble" for his sake.  What that will look like I couldn't say.  But I know for sure that following Jesus is an adventure.

And no real adventure is ever entirely safe.

Wanna get in some trouble?  Let's go!
